On the reverse of this photography is written "Harry Nelson Doylestown/Barber. This black and white photograph shows Nelson standing outside of a store.
According to the 1950 U.S. Census, Nelson was born on November 20, 1883 in Pennsylvania. A bachelor at the time of the census, Nelson lived at 168 East Oakland Street. The census shows that he owned a barber shop, and had worked for 56 hours in the week prior to being enumerated. His brother, Yardley, lived and worked with him.
Nelson had a draft card for World War I date September 12, 1918 which lists Nelson as being Black. The draft card lists Nelson working as a barber for Levi Nelson at a shop at 2 West State Street in Doylestown, PA. Nelson also registered for the draft for World War II on April 27, 1942. On this draft card, Nelson is listed as being white.
An ancestry.com family tree indicates that Nelson's full name was Henry C. Nelson. It states that he was born on November 20, 1883 in Doylestown, PA and died there on January 1, 1966.
