Letter to Mama, From Mary
-
Description
-
Mary, the letter writer, tells her mother she accidentally left a tooth in a glass in the medicine cabinet and asks her to keep it safe until someone can bring it to them. She describes returning late from a weekend visit due to a bus delay, noting that friends Dottie and Deasie enjoyed the trip.
-
She shares disappointing news that Herbie’s graduation was delayed because a professor couldn’t read his handwriting on a “Wills” exam, possibly requiring a make-up test in the fall. The writer has a dental appointment and is unsure whether the dentist will pull a tooth or fill it. Mary informs that Bill was not reappointed to his position but hope something else will come up for him, and she recommends seeing “Pygmalion,” which she enjoyed with Dottie. They note someone has been working at the court but haven’t spoken to him, express hope that Gwen will be well-treated by her nurses, and mention having 60 days until vacation and 36 days of classes remaining. The letter closes with thanks and love to everyone at home.

Dearest mama,
I left my tooth in a little
glass in the medicine closet. Maybe
you have run across it. Any way
please keep it safe and sound for
me. Maybe someone will be coming
to New York and can bring it to me.
I didn’t even miss it until i went
to clean my teeth Sunday after I
got back.
We didn’t get back until nearly
ten thirty because the bus was forty
minutes late but Deasie went to Miss
Burns and she said it was perfectly
all right and she hoped she had a
pleasant week-end etc. Papa really
just got us on that bus. We had fun
rattling around on the back seat.
Dottie - Deasie both said they had
such a nice time & they got you even
